"Best bed and breakfast in Reading - no intrusive "host", relaxed, welcoming and a sort of "safe" feeling - as if you are not imposing, I only ever stay here" Nick
We Really Look Forward to Seeing YOU! |
'Just wanted to say Great! Something very interesting about this accommodation and unusual!! Wonderful countryside all around it and a feeling of 'olden times' - yet the house itself is very modern, clean and friendly.
Great lounge, loved the dining room - especially the lights and that egg maker thingy! Very comfortable beds and for the first time I didn't feel as if I was 'intruding' in someone's home. Great - you've got it right!! I will be back!' Brenda April 2010
'What a surprise, was just passing after a long & late meeting. Lovely welcome, wonderful bedroom, loved the dining room - (where did you get those lights?!). Casual atmosphere (with no chatty host - lovely!). Hope I get to attend more meetings in Reading'. Carol, Human Resources Manager
'What an improvement! Great Guest House and so fab to have that lounge, made the painting course' Linda
"Wonderful guest house - why can't they all be like this?!! Mandy
"Loved the lounge, we had some great evenings in there on the painting week. Thanks, a time I will not forget!! Jane |
I was warmly welcomed by Colin, when I arrived at the JoeDaisy B & B where I stayed 3 nights It`s funky in style, which reflects the owner Caroline Hulse, a world renowned artist. The house is light and airy, neutral walls are splashed with a dazzling collection of her own and other artists work. I loved the quirky touches which she has dotted around which create a sense of fun.
My bedroom was simply furnished, but had luxury accessories such as rich dark red sheets and bed coverings, a cotton bathrobe hanging behind the door, soap, shower cap, and bath essence, and a very comfortable bed. None of the rooms are en suite but it didn`t seem to matter. The bathroom I used was large and spacious.
There is a sitting room for guests which I thought was a big bonus. A large red sofa and an armchair by a big brick fireplace invite you to `sit a while`. Caroline has thoughtfully provided books, a CD player and CD`s, jigsaws and an array of paper and crayons.
The dining room is always open so I was able to make tea or coffee whenever I wanted as everything is laid out on a counter ready for use. There is also a small fridge which houses milk and water.
Breakfast is continental style. There is an amusing toaster which has the added facility of poaching, or boiling eggs at the same time as it toasts bread. I used it every morning and it turned out perfectly poached eggs every time!
There are 2 very good pubs 3 minutes walk away serving excellent food, but Caroline will happily supply you with a home cooked meal.
I sampled cottage pie and very good chicken casserole which was cooked by Robin. There was a huge cheese board to follow plus a basket of assorted fruit. Wine was available and tea and coffee was at hand on the side counter.
The housekeeping is excellent as everywhere was spotless. All in all a place I would go back to.
